Kain Knight Directors amongst the first costs draftsmen in the UK to receive rights of audience.

On the 1st of January the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen (ALCD) was granted Authorised Body status by way of SI 2006 No. 3333 (The Association of Law Costs Draftsmen Order 2006) enabling it to bestow upon members with Fellowship status rights of audience and the right to conduct costs litigation.

The ALCD arranged compulsory seminars for those Fellows wishing to attain higher status. The seminars, held over two full days, took place at the Inns of Court School of Law in London and concentrated on Conducting Costs Litigation, Advocacy and the Solicitors’ Accounts rules.

The first seminar was fully subscribed with two further two-day seminars will take place before the end of the year.

Senior Costs Judge, Master Peter Hurst addressed the delegates on day one welcoming their decision to attend the course and looking forward to welcoming Costs Draftsmen in their own right at the SCCO.

Kain Knight was represented by Jim Knight and Gary Knight from the Bishop’s Stortford office and Michael Monaghan from the London Office.

Gary commented it was “an extremely interesting two days with excellent presentation from the speakers” Jim added “it has been a long time coming but we are now recognised in our own right and no longer need to be treated as a temporary employee of the solicitor to attend detailed assessments”

As a result of the attendance Jim, Gary and Michael now have rights of audience and the right to conduct costs litigation and will now be known as Fellow Advocates of the ALCD - FALCD (Adv.)
